      There remains a duo of top officials within the Trump administration (Scott Bessent & Steve Witkoff ) who continue to defend Trump and his desire to receive a "gift" from Qatar.  The $4 million plane in question would NOT be a gift for the US, nor is it properly outfitted to (properly) transport the leader of the free world.  In separate interviews with journalists, Bessent and Witkoff attempted to defend Trump from the bribery optics of the Qatari "gift".        Keep in mind that Trump's argument is that the $4 million aircraft will be an immediate replacement for the aging Air Force One.  The "gift" and AF1 are (approximately) the same age.  The Boeing 747-8 would require a great deal of refurbishing, upgrades, inspections, and more for it to be considered as a replacement for the presidential plane.  Additionally, during Trump's first administration, he bragged about negotiating a deal on a duo of replacement...
