What Happened to Culture is to be Shared?
White people never cease to be hypocritical. For quite a while now they have been "Columbusing" every culture that they could under the guise that "culture is meant to be shared". That is until something becomes near and dear to their oppressive little hearts. A few months ago, they took to social media to tell the BIPOC community that Rock n Roll was their culture [and creation] and we should stick to Hip Hop. 😏. They weren't in a sharing mood (although they did NOT create the genre).
Before that, they were not willing to share their love of anime with Black and Brown fans. Then there was the uproar regarding the 2023 'Little Mermaid' being Black and how that would infringe upon their culture. 😐. Now, the song, "Sweater Weather" has become their latest attempt at gatekeeping for the sake of their "comfort culture".
Keep in mind that this comes on the heals of them utilizing "Strange Fruit", "Black Barbie", "Keep Your Head Up" and more under the cloak of, "music is for everyone". Where did that energy go? It morphed into their historical standard of "what's for you is for me, and what I deem is for me is for me ONLY." They are the largest collection of toddler-minded "don't play with my toys, but give me yours" humans on the planet.Due to the systems and mentalities created by their ancestry, they inherently believe that the planet is owed to them via birthright and we are merely here to supply them with comforts and labor. This is why they so easily proclaim that appropriating culture (for them) is no big deal. It's just hair. It's just food. It's just music. It's just slang/social media jargon/teen talk.
They know that there is HISTORY, MEANING, and CULTURE behind so very many things within the BIPOC community. They understand that it is WRONG to appropriate, rebrand and/or eliminate the cultures of marginalized people. This is evident in them losing their collective minds due to a dance being made to accompany their newly discovered "sacred song of comfort". Yet no one should be upset about: cowboy caviar, spa water, sticky bangs, and more.
Anglo-audacity was never caught up in the supply-chain issues and appears to be at wholesale prices and quantities at the moment. If only they would admit to being the toxic drama within a relationship that the rest of us cannot escape no matter how hard we try. They REFUSE to allow us safe spaces, yet want us to respect that a little diddy on the airwaves is their safe space and should be untouched by our rhythmic expressions. Yet a song bringing light to Black people HANGING from trees is ideal for them to dance to for funsies. 😡
They heard, "blood on the leaves" and thought, "yea....this is the perfect track for me to shake my tailfeather to". Additionally, "Sweater Weather" is a bisexual anthem, therefore, ONCE AGAIN white queer people are erasing the existence of BLACK queer people.
Even with that, let us begin here White people... what happened to culture is meant to be shared and it's JUST music? Enquiring minds would love to know.
