School Shootings, Keyboard Warrior Detectives & Conspiracy Theories

 

    It is heartwrenching enough to find out that your child has become a casualty of a horrific school shooting.  Imagine having that pain compounded by internet pseudo sleuths proclaiming that the mass murder was a hoax and that you and your deceased child are paid, actors.  This is what is currently being discussed during the defamation trial of (shock jock) Alex Jones.  

     There are attorneys taking to the airways to debate if the pain and delayed grieving of the parent of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre is simply due to the loss of a child or the false claims targeted at them by Jones.  Re-read that.  Jones, who has been the MOST vocal in proclaiming that the school shooting never occurred and who WILLINGLY passes along the wild theories of keyboard detectives has profited from this rhetoric.  

     Families have received hate mail, death threats, and more.  Jones mocked their mourning and encouraged others to follow suit.  Yet, there are jurists that believe that he would be victorious in the case if he had better representation that would properly utilize a defense surrounding the First Amendment.  

      They are concerned with him inciting violence being protected constitutionally as parents are having gravesites swarmed and their homes invaded due to his performative grifting.  Jones [essentially] took to his "show" 'InfoWars' to call the parents actors and lie about officials laughing at their tears and claiming that the events of Sandy Hook never occurred.  

     Do keep in mind that 'InfoWars' (est. 1999)  is described as a "far-right conspiracy theory and fake news website owned by Alex Jones".   During his divorce proceedings, he admitted that he is an entertainer and not a reporter.  During a [very] recent press conference, he centered himself as a victim and claimed that he has apologized but reserves the right to question events that have occurred.  

    In the trial just prior to this, the contents of his cell phone for a number of years were sent to the opposition.  his guilt has been established and the pain and strain on the families he has caused is more than evident.  

     We are QUICK to talk about people being desensitized to so many things BUT not them becoming so desensitized that families are being further traumatized by grifters.  Where is the compassion and advocacy for those that have had to bury CHILDREN? 

     Oh, yea...that doesn't make money or headlines.
