USA: What is Your Obsession with the 1950s?

     

     What is the obsession with wanting to rewind the clock to the decade of the 1950s in the United States? I can see the appeal for straight, cisgender, white, pseudo-Christian white men, but for all others...not so much.  Why does ANY woman want to return to a time when we ALL were viewed as and treated as [disposable] property? 

     Has it been lost on most of you the number of barbituates that it took to get WOMEN through their days with their openly abusive, corrupt, disloyal, philandering husbands? I am guessing that simply looking at vintage television shows and movies mixed with the utter lies told over the years from past generations you truly believe that the 1950s was the golden age of life in the United States.  

     Please take note that one of the most prevalent pastimes of American culture is LYING as a measure of making one's existence appear better than that of the generation that they are to be cultivating.  Did you really expect your traumatize and groomed CHILD BRIDE memaw to tell you how your papaw "wore her down" and then placed her in a captive hold as he split his time and finances between her, the racetrack (or bar), and his mistress down the block?

     Why do you think so many "modern women" have "nest eggs" and are enforcing their standards and opting out of "traditional relationships and gender roles? THEY WERE TAUGHT BY THE WOMEN THAT WERE TRAPPED IN TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS.  Many of the couples that you idolize lastest as long as they because by the time a woman could [legally] live on her own, she had no work experience to enter the workforce at a level that would properly sustain herself and her children.  

     This was also an era when men were determined "manly" due to their ability to present only stoicism or anger and by NOT being present for their children outside of "public appearances", photo ops, and financial obligation.  Additionally, those "parenting" methods singularly applied [publicly] to the children of the wife and not to those conceived via deceit attached to the war effort and the "sowing of wild oats". 

     As for non-white people, why are YOU consumed with the idea of reverting to Jim Crow? We were definitively separate, yet FAR from equal.  Do you wish to relive redlining, blockbustering, and picnics in which WE were the UNWILLING entertainment? Do you wish to have the lifeless bodies of your kindred plastered upon postcards AGAIN? Do you not enjoy sleeping through the night? Do you want to return to taking shifts at night in order to ensure that the Klan wouldn't burn or bomb you out of existence?

     I thought that the goal was to move into an era, FINALLY, in which this pseudo melting pot could live in equity.  I was [naively] under the impression that we were to be moving towards a golden era for ALL, not merely the mirror images of the founding philanderers.
