Who Is Truly the Beauty Standard?
Also, let us NOT forget the number of women that were fervently jealous of the SLAVE women that were VICTIMS of their OWNERS. There were white women during the antebellum that clutched their pearls whenever sharing air with Black women, especially in the company of their white husbands. Their disdain went beyond body types, it extended to the crowns of Black women, which led to Tignon Law. Non-black people ensured that Black hair was demonized and made illegal while they dawned the cultural styles themselves to high praises.
Do NOT allow it to slip one's mind that the "clean look", the BBL (era), "brown sugar glaze" lips, [deep] tanning, and more stem from the NATURAL occurrence of Black women. Black women are DEMONIZED for celebrating our culture, while our non-Black counterparts are praised and emulated as well as permitted to monetize their appropriation. This is all occurring simultaneously with Black women being [forcibly] indoctrinated into thinking/believing that Anglo women are the standard that the country strives to imitate.
If that were true, then someone PLEASE explain to me the absorbent amount of non-Black women making their [entire] personality trait ANTAGONIZING BLACK WOMEN. If YOU are the standard, why are you giving so much energy to those you believe to be lesser than you?! Why must you try to prove to your fetishized partners that you are better than the OG that you are wearing as a trending cloak?
On paper, white women were written in as the standard as a superficial ego boost. Think of it like when you give your young child/cousin/sibling a controller that is NOT connected to the gaining system so that you don't have to be bothered with teaching them the game, etc.
Think that I am reaching? Consider the following:
- Have you ever heard an Anglo woman justify [deep] tanning by saying that she looks better or feels more confident due to it?
- Each white person incessantly utilizing AAVE claims to be from the "hood" and that is just how they speak? yet Black people use AAVE and do NOT have a universal accent?
- Celebrities [often] blackfish to break into their genre of choice due to its profitability?
- Notice that there is an entire niche within the beauty industry designed to allow people to "age like Black women"?
- Have you seen women get lip filler, plumpers, or merely overdraw their lips?
- How "spicy" and attractive it makes non-Black women be straightforward, outspoken, and holding people accountable; but how it's an annoyance for Black women to be such [naturally].
