Ask Colonizers About Disparities NOT Us
It has ALWAYS been my stance that if you are genuine in wanting change, you address those that can invoke it. If you want to know why something STILL exists, ask the people protecting and perpetuating it. Therefore, why are REPORTERS not seeking out White athletes (etc) regarding the systems that BENEFIT them the most, and many support themselves. better yet, why are reporters not looking in the mirror asking themselves these things they boisterously interrogate BIPOC athletes with?
Because they don't want answers. They want "gotcha moments".
They are hoping that in response to one of their facetious interviews they will garner a response that falls into the realm of a stereotype that can be utilized to vilify a member of the BIPOC community. Especially within the confines of the United States, there is an odd trend of compelling athletes and entertainers of color to stick to their careers and not speak on politics or human rights issues, then asking them about such matters during the execution of their works.
Also, why does this society act as if OUR careers do NOT exclude us from the conversation of civil & human rights? Principally when far too many do NOT have a basic level grasp of history, civics, or the English language. 😏 Additionally, why does this subpar society continue to pretend that certain careers shield people from systemic racism, bigotry, and more?
Colonizers remain in control of the vast majority of corporations and are the primary source of lawmakers. Why NOT ask them why they allow their country which they covet so much to discriminate so blatantly and consistently? Why NOT seek out fellow OWNERS and inquire of them about Jerry jones being a part of history that their lineages continue to proclaim as hundreds of years ago?
Oh...that's right, the only plausible "gotcha moment" that will occur is the unveiling of covert racism that is already known to exist and will not be weaponized by the media [at large].
Moreover, cease asking us whether we are "on the clock" or NOT to explain the actions and systems of oppressors...ask them. STOP putting us in positions that could leave us without a means of supporting our families and legacies. Refrain from placing us on the tightrope of truth, political correctness, and company policy. We have ALL worked far too hard to obtain gainful employment for the media to flush it all away for a soundbite that will RARELY be utilized in context.
