The most recent
school shooting took place in Nashville, TN, and was committed by a member of the Trans community. The detail surrounding their gender identity is what is causing great harm and increased hatred towards a marginalized community. There are even CONSERVATIVE "pick-me" members of the Trans community as well as transphobes that are OPENLY misgendering and deadnaming the shooter. He is DECEASED. Their words riddled with hatred will NEVER hurt him again. Who will this rhetoric hurt? Living, breathing members of the community.
What does this accomplish?
It furthers the ability to turn a blind eye to the epidemic that is gun violence within the US. Additionally, this is [yet] another way for bigots to continue to wage a culture war against a minute portion of society. Forget the egregiousness of the TRAGEDY... let us perpetuate the target of this current climate. 😏 Let us NOT look into the sexual assault that was taking place at the CHRISTIAN school and the FACT that it was KNOWN about. Let us IGNORE the court proceedings and bullying that were before the shooting. Let's simply jump on the disrespect express... because you know...the American way.
Why address the roots of issues and work on [plausible] solutions?
It would be far too uncomfortable to hold legislators, lobbyists, and the NRA to any standard. It would be asking too much for ELECTED officials to do what they were voted in to do...PROTECT THE POPULUS. All we are encouraged to do is toss about hate, "thoughts & prayers" as well as asinine pseudo-solutions taking points regarding an issue that is the MOST DEADLY. towards our YOUTH.
But Chicago, right? 😏 But, the Black community needs to solve gun violence in our communities...right? 😏
Marginalized communities are far too often tasked with fixing what the oppressive sector breaks and refuses to [coherently] comprehend. Staunch conservatives within the "land of the free" carry on with trying to remove the freedoms of others while [simultaneously] grappling to protect the 2nd amendment. An amendment that protects a well TRAINED and REGULATED MILITIA and NOT individual rights to own military-grade weaponry, ammunition, and paraphernalia.
But protect the children...from the threat of empathy and an entertainer reading to them during brunch...right? 😏
Well, at least protect them until they leave the womb and they are NOT:
- disabled
- LGBTQIA+
- Black, Brown, Indigenous People of Color
- live with mental health issues
- poor
- an immigrant
Moreover, the current atmosphere of transphobia will NOT resurrect a single life lost recently. Transphobia (also) will NOT erase the previous school shootings perpetrated by cis-gendered individuals. 💅
