Learn to Read the Room

     Today I came across a video from an extremely popular (and generally well-respected) content creator that proved that massive intellect does NOT always mean that one can read the room.  His tone-deaf take regarding the use of the phrase "unalive" on TikTok showed how removed cis white men are from the reality occurring around them.  

In a time in history where at our fingertips we have a plethora of people sharing their LIVED experiences...his scientific mind could not utilize available data properly.

     What do I mean? he did NOT bother to take note of the fact that non-white people are FORCED to [creatively] censor ourselves in order to avoid community guidelines violations (and potentially the loss of our platforms).  Additionally, he did NOT take attribute data surrounding the willingness of social media platforms to protect larger accounts that garner them a heftier profit stream. You know, like his own widely popular platform. 💅. Let's recap, a cis-gendered, white male scientist with a large platform has decided to ignore readily available data (which is compounding in real-time) because he thinks the use of "unalive" is juvenile. 😏 Sounds about gentrified geriatric of him.

And, just as one may have guessed...he is NOT venturing away from the white man handbook for tone-deaf grievances.  He is bypassing (thus far) commentary from non-white people explaining why HE can say murder, kill, suicide, etc on the clock app and WE can NOT.

     But, why would the privileged want to become uncomfortable by listening and FINALLY taking in the data that's been available since he first leaped into the ocean that is social media? I am sure that his [current] cancer battle will be utilized as a shield from accountability should this ill-informed take begin to affect his "bottom line".  At least that will deviate from the newly appropriated defense of, "I'm autistic and just don't understand" that seems to have been placed in the 2022/2023 upgrade of the white man handbook.  😏

No, I have NOT forgotten about the brigade of white women Karens that are currently brushing up on their defense statements so that they can shield his poor little soul from the consequences of his [willful] societal blindness.

     Moreover, far too many people within our society have NEVER had to learn to read the room, because they are conditioned into the belief that everything is for them and their comfort reigns supreme.  Add into that the staple within the US of white men NEVER truly having to leave childhood and the fact that they are perpetually excused and protected from consequences that match their "crimes".  Unfortunately for them, the tables have turned and the tides have changed.  A new day brings new expectations and guidelines.  This new dawn brings with it a drive towards EQUITY across "the board".  💅
