Who Really Gets to Celebrate Freedom?
Therefore... riddle me this, why are we tasked with celebrating white ancestors liberating themselves from opposing ancestors while being counted as livestock?
To date, we are still not seen as [fully] human to the point that wildlife is more inviting to gentrifiers than our skin. How is the perceived "founding" of this country based on freedom, while the nation remains set on excluding so many of its citizens from entry into its protection? It is FAR past time for the nation to address what it benefits from and how privileges came to be. CEASE with the, "I don't benefit from slavery" and the "I have no privilege because..." shenanigans. Just as is done today, too many sit back and get comfortable within the status quo that provides them with pathways that most others are detoured from.
Independence Day is a white people's holiday...NOT a unifying day of multicultural celebration.
STOP disrespecting the traditions and holidays of the non-white in an attempt to force a bastardized version of patriotism. Just as you do NOT want to do more than cosplay our cultures, while bypassing our struggles, we do NOT want to participate in celebrating our degradation and displacement. Are you actively celebrating the British holidays that your ancestors once did? Do you celebrate violence against those that mirror your image? Are there festivals chronicling those lost to yellow fever, the bubonic plague, and more? No? Then WHY are you so determined to force-feed the marginalized your flag code-breaking, alcohol, and debauchery-filled, boisterous white "people boat" holiday?
